Fungal cultures collection. Our main research activities from 2006-2009 are in the field of Fungal Biodiversity and Evolution. Biodiversity studies have been developped 1) to better understand the cheese environment and particularly to discriminate biotechnological inoculums of the cheese industry (P. camemberti, P. roqueforti ...) from closely related contaminants, 2) to define phylogenetic species in the large genus Penicillium, 3) to evaluate culturable and non-culturable fungal communities on grapes, 4) to understand the epidemiology of the fungal contamination in the Lascaux cave and 5) to describe fungi from the extreme environments of the deep sea. Evolutionary studies have shown the maintenance of genes involved in sexual reproduction for Penicillium species considered as asexual until now.Human collections . Our samples have been used for several researches in the broad field of Human Evolutionary Genetics. 1) infering population history 2) detecting natural selection and past adaptation of populations 3) influence of social behaviour on the genetic diversity of our species.- infering past history of Pygmies and non-pygmies populations from Central Africa. 3xG study (Gezondheid, Gemeenten, Geboorten) 3xG (read: three times G) is a local birth cohort study to follow up the health of the citizens in the communities of Dessel, Mol and Retie in Belgium. The purpose is to monitor environmental and lifestyle exposure and health effects by following up 301 newborns till the age of 18 years old, with human biomonitoring and frequent questionnaires.

Firefighting occupational exposure and early effects on the health of operational forces 4FirHealth evaluated the occupational exposure of firefighters to health-relevant pollutants, gas and (coarse, fine, and ultrafine) particulate matter, and its composition in metals and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons at fire stations and during (forest/structure) firefighting activities. AACR Project GENIE: Powering Precision Medicine Precision medicine requires an end-to-end learning health care system, wherein the treatment decisions for patients are informed by the prior experiences of similar patients. Oncology is currently leading the way in precision medicine because the genomic and other molecular characteristics of patients and their tumors are routinely collected at scale. A major challenge to realizing the promise of precision medicine is that no single institution is able to sequence and treat sufficient numbers of patients to improve clinical-decision making independently. To overcome this challenge, the AACR launched Project GENIE (Genomics Evidence Neoplasia Information Exchange).
AACR Project GENIE® is a publicly accessible cancer registry of real-world clinico-genomic data assembled through data sharing between 19 leading international cancer centers. Through the efforts of strategic partners Sage Bionetworks and cBioPortal, the registry aggregates, harmonizes, and links clinical-grade, next-generation cancer genomic sequencing data with clinical outcomes obtained during routine medical practice from nearly every cancer patient treated at these institutions. The consortium and its activities are driven by openness, transparency, and inclusion, ensuring that the project output remains accessible to the global cancer research community for the benefit of all.
We see the GENIE data providing another knowledge turn in the virtuous cycle of research, accelerating the pace of drug discovery, improving clinical trial design, and ultimately benefiting cancer patients globally.- Type

Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development Study The Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development (ABCD) Study is a longitudinal U.S. cohort study that has followed nearly 12,000 children recruited at ages 9–10 to examine brain development, cognition, mental health, and substance use trajectories into adulthood. It collects multimodal data including structural and functional MRI, neurocognitive assessments, mental and physical health measures, genetics, biospecimens, and detailed environmental and social information. Importantly, participant residential addresses are geocoded and used to link external contextual data such as neighborhood socioeconomic conditions, air pollution, crime, greenspace, and school characteristics. The Augsburg Central BioBank is a centralized biobank at the University Hospital of Augsburg. It is divided into two parts, consisting of liquid and solid biosamples. For solid biosamples, we collect oncological biosamples with the main focus on lung, mammary and colorectal carcinomas with the respective metastases and rare tumors, which include pediatric cases. Moreover, the biobank offers services for sample collection with a specific research focus. The liquid part of the biobank includes non-solid samples (blood, urine etc.) and clinical data from oncological patients.- Type
