Moli-sani Study
Description
The Moli-sani Study is one of the largest population cohorts in Europe. Established in 2005-2010 with the purpose of investigating genetic and environmental risk factors in the onset of main chronic-degenerative diseases, the Study has recruited 24,325 men and women aged ≥35 years residing in the southern Italian region of Molise.
At baseline, participants underwent an in-depth medical examination, including electrocardiogram and spirometry, as well as a thorough assessment of diet, general health, and lifestyle.
The Moli-sani Study cohort is followed up every three years for mortality and incidence of chronic diseases through record linkage to regional death register and hospital discharge form registers. The validation of major events is achieved by checking hospital medical records using international standardized criteria.
Along with the start of the study, a population Biological Bank has been established to store participants’ biological material (plasma citrated, plasma EDTA, serum, buffy-coat and urine) in liquid nitrogen (-196 °C).

Access conditions
If you are interested in using available data from the Moli-sani Study database, please follow these steps:
1) Send your request to info@moli-sani.org.
2) You will be contacted by the project manager who will discuss and, if necessary, work up your project plan.
3) The Moli-sani Study Steering Committee will assess the proposed project plans with regard to their quality and feasibility and will recommend the selected ones to be carried out.
4) If your request is approved, a contract will be concluded between the Department fo Epidemiology and Prevention at IRCCS Neuromed and your institution.
5) Data in the agreed form and extent will be provided based on this contract.
